This is a cool concept and a nice looking picture.

Is it based on actual folklore? It feels like it.

Thanks! The concept was based on various tales of spirits of deceased family members who failed to rest in peace due to their family's lack of care. I also thought the idea of a chainsmoking ghost would be awesome.

I love working with the pixel brushes and the line tool, so i really went for the geometric/kinda low poly vibe! (It's also the style i really really want to develop and i'd like to try my hand at making some low poly 3d models one day!!!!)

Muzutai has a "rare" condition that makes her able to see creepy cryptid ghosts and she's dealt with that for years, drawing whatever she sees. Now she's in a college having a hard time socializing until she meets a guy and a magical sketchbook.

Extraordinary effort went into the detail here. The froth on the drink, the lighting, the shapes; how do you do it?

I used a picture of a beer mug as a reference and tried to replicate the effect of the shading and the effervescence, used a star brush that when set in a small size looks like spots so I added the effects that way. For the lighting I played a bit with multiply and divide layers^
